Apple announced the iPad Mini, which was the first iProduct which had so less anticipation from consumers. Lines outside the Apple stores were small enough, and at some stores there were no lines. iPad Mini was underwhelming for some people. But for some this is just an iPad with a small screen and less price than full sized iPad.
At $329, iPad mini is damn expensive than any other 7 inch tablet. For the record, Nexus 7 ships at just $199, which is $130 less than iPad Mini. So what iPad mini has that premium for this premium price? Answer is bit hurting. Nothing.
iPad mini falls short at every end when we compare it to any 7" tablet. The only thing iPad mini can boast about is Apple's logo. Yeah it has got it on its back.
iPad mini as compared to larger version also falls short. In terms of specs, it has got nothing boastful. iPad mini has a poor A5, year old processor. RAM is not much, might be around 512 MB, I suppose.
But hey, its 2012. World no longer works 'only' on specs. iPad mini runs on iOS, which unlike Android has Zero lag. Scrolling, panning and everything feels smooth, even on a year old hardware.
iPad when arrived, was successful because of its screen size. 10" screen was good enough for casual browsing, soft core email and was great for Twitter, Facebook and watching HD content. Great screen plus the 10 Hour inevitably large battery life was success formula for Apple.
iPad Mini is featured with a 7.9 inch screen. Just a inch or half smaller than the original iPad, so whats the catch? We measure screen size diagonally, so 7.9 inch is way smaller than 10 inch screen. But still iPad mini has a screen that is bigger than most 7 inch tablets and could be held easily in one hand.
Also, a battery life better than iPad is surely welcomed. It gives a consistent battery life of 12 Hours with moderate usage and is one of those devices which outperform from what has been stated on Apple's website.
What makes iPad Mini so special is its design. Nothing Much.
The ability to hold iPad Mini is just as good as comparing weight of both iPads. iPad Mini just feels right. Combination of Lightness plus bigger screen, than most of seven inch tablet, makes it a perfect machine.
Talking about the year old hardware, you'll only feel it when playing graphic intensive games. But for casual work, which I suppose most people do, it do not show lag, just like any other iOS device.
Typically speaking, on couch weight do matter. Holding the original iPad was a kind of 'Doing Weightlifting.' iPad Mini makes your hand feel comfortable after long work hours. You can hold it in one hand and still enjoy full HD videos.
